Our celebrity Master Chef Mike Li Wei
Mike Li Wei, hails from Suining City in the Sichuan province of China and enrolled at the professional culinary school to commence his tutelage, at the tender age of 15. The Holiday Inn at Dalian City in Liao Ling province initiated him into the profession as the first cook in 1998 at the age of 18. From there on, Guangzhou City, Suining City, and Shanghai provided him an ideal platform to mature into Master Chef at the age of 23 years.
He was the first to venture out as a Commissioning Master Chef at ‘Empress of China’ in Park Royal Intercontinental, New Delhi, India and ‘Trans Asia Hotel’, Colombo, Sri Lanka in quick succession. Then, ‘The Crowne Plaza’, Shijiazhuang, beckoned him back to China.
He charmed audiences with his craft by consistently creating mouth-watering delicacies, with an apparent ease of a magician at China Club, Gurgaon, where he worked from its inception till March 2005. Here Mike Li Wei met Jagjit Singh and the two being great foodies, became close friends.
Mike later went back to his home city, Suining in China with a commitment to return. In the meantime, Jagjit pursued his long time hotelier friend Pankaj Kodesia, to join hands with his younger brother Kartar Singh to launch NCR’s most happening and premium restaurant, ‘Hao Shi Nian Nian’. Pankaj was instrumental in bringing Mike and his team of able chefs back to India, at the restaurant.
“It’s great to be back- now at Hao Shi Nian Nian, Gurgaon’s best Fine Dining Restaurant and Bar. Together with my team of 3 expatriate Chefs from China, I have created a brand new menu, keeping in mind the guests ‘preference for Dimsums, Sea Food, Meats and wide selection of vegetarian delicacies as well,” says Mike.
